INTRODUCTION

Spread the NightHaven™ out with the rear of the shelter facing into the wind for greater stability and ventilation. Loosen the six adjustable stake loops so there will be room to adjust the shelter after it is pitched.

If you are using the optional floor it is best to attach it at this time. The floor clips to ten points inside the shelter.

Finding the correct pole height is crucial to pitching this shelter. It may be helpful to measure the height of your trekking poles for the first set up.

SET-UP STEPS
  1. Start at the rear of the shelter. Pull the opposing stake loops apart until the fabric at the back of the shelter is straight, but not taught. Set the stakes, leaving room for adjustment (fig. 1).

  2. Pull apart the opposing stake loops near the front of the shelter. Set the stakes, leaving plenty of room for adjustment (fig. 2). The fabric at these two corners should be the same width as the fabric at the rear of the shelter. Tensioning the slack out of this part of the shelter will be one of the last steps.

  3. Collapse one trekking pole completely. Place the handle of the pole in the peak at the rear of the shelter. Tighten the drawcord around the grip to hold it in place. Plant the end of the pole in the ground, or in the grommet in the optional floor (fig. 3).

Some trekking poles will not collapse enough to be placed vertically. These poles can be collapsed as far as possible and placed at an angle. The optional floor has a durable patch for the end of the pole.
Extend the pole until the roof at the rear of the tent is taught. The rear of the shelter should be around 30 in. / 76 cm high. The partial floor should have at least three inches of fabric touching the ground.

  4. Place the handle of the second trekking pole in the peak at the front of the shelter. Tighten the drawcord around the grip and plant the end of the pole. Extend the pole, raising the shelter until the roof is taught (fig. 4). The partial floor should be touching the ground, but not completely flat. The pole should be around 42 in. / 107 cm high. Zip the door closed for the following steps.

  5. Stake out the front point of the shelter, applying tension to the ridgeline (fig. 5). The front should look full, not concave.

  6. Stake the adjustable loop at the rear of the shelter (fig. 6.a). This loop can be connected to the smaller stake loop below with a piece of cord. When connected, both loops can be set with one stake (fig. 6.b).
The adjustable stake loop can be used to adjust the airflow at the rear of the shelter. Tightening the loop increases ventilation and wind resistance, releasing it allows the rear vent to close.

  7. Tighten the opposing stake loops at the front of the shelter (fig. 7). The front of the shelter should be approximately 8 in. / 20 cm wider than the rear.

ADJUSTMENT

Use the adjustable stake loops to fine tune the tension of your shelter. Additional guy line loops and stake out points can be used to provide greater stability in heavy winds.

Ideally, the eaves of the NightHaven™ will be above the ground and the roof will look full. The partial floor should be touching the ground on all sides.

The NightHaven™ can be set higher for increased space and ventilation, or lower for greater wind resistance. There should always be a 12 in. / 30 cm height difference between the two peaks.

When you’ve found the correct pitch, mark the sections on your trekking poles to help you find the correct height in the future.

Notes:

Before You Head Out
Take a few minutes to become familiar with your NightHaven™ before you are depending on it in the outdoors. A short practice session at home will reduce set-up time significantly.

Notes:
Select a Site
Choose a safe, level area when setting up your NightHaven™. The shelter should be used in an area that is safe from rocks and tree limbs that may fall in windy or rainy conditions.

Fire Warning
The NightHaven™ is made from a polyurethane and silicone-coated nylon that is flame retardant. Any source of heat or flame can cause the fabric to melt or burn. Never use a stove inside this shelter.

Seam Sealing
The weather-resistant properties of the NightHaven™ can be improved by sealing the seams with McNett™ products. SilNet™ is ideal for sealing the exterior, Seam Sure™ or Seam Grip® can be used to coat seams from the inside.
